Georg Christoph Wagenseil was the "court composer" of Empress Maria Theresa and the piano teacher of her five daughters. His name has remained in the memory of posterity mainly because of the anecdote according to which the six-year-old Mozart, when he was supposed to give rehearsals of his childlike genius before the imperial court in 1762, asked for Wagenseil: "I'm going to play a concerto by you, you have to turn me around" The organ concertos on this CD show Wagenseil as a master of the pre-classical period. His hallmark is a successful mixture of French, Italian and German styles, including the then avant-garde forms of the "sensitive" and "gallant" styles. In this way, he follows the typical German tradition of the "mixed" style, which was especially cultivated by Telemann.
