With the comedy ballet "La Vénitienne", first performed in 1768 at the Académie royale de musique in Paris, Antoine Dauvergne (1713-1797) once again proved that he had a virtuoso command of the most diverse styles of his time. In his music, he combined elements of the music of Rameau, Pergolesi, Grétry and Mondonville to create an individual musical language that seamlessly combines Italian virtuosity with French charm and a sense of form. After their highly acclaimed Grétry recording, Les Agrémens and Guy van Waas once again give us a welcome and entertaining "tutorial" in French opera history.
