With Vol. 8 Christian Zacharias and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne reach the penultimate stage in the complete recording of the piano concertos by W. A. Mozart. Both concerts in this series date from 1786: K. 491 in C minor was written in great haste on March 24 while working on the opera "The Marriage of Figaro", K. 503 in C major was completed on December 4. With a symphonically interwoven interplay of soloist and orchestra and a passionate tone, the C minor Concerto departed from familiar traditions. In KV 503, the virtuoso approach once again predominates, although here too Mozart brilliantly shapes the vocal interweavings and comes up with highly surprising harmonic and tonal nuances.
