Würtz is, in this writer’s view, one of the best pianist/musicians currently performing… truly great piano-playing, a direct route to the soul, thus wrote Rob Cowan in Gramophone magazine. This 34-CD set celebrates the discographic legacy of Hungarian pianist Klára Würtz, recorded in a period spanning nearly 30 years.

Würtz was born in 1965 in Budapest/Hungary, where she studied at the legendary Liszt Academy with such iconic teachers as Ferenc Rados, György Kurtág and Zoltán Kocsis. Early successes at international competitions launched her international career, which brought her to important venues all over the world.

Her CD recordings enhanced her fame. Her first recording, the complete Mozart piano sonatas immediately set a golden standard: “Sensational! Würtz’ pianistic finesse, her inclination to let the phrases breathe and “sing”, her superb and fastidious equilibrium, and, above all, her inclination to leave well enough alone and let the music speak for itself, represent “centric” Mozart tradition at its attractive best.” (Harris Goldsmith in International Record Review). Many accolades and prizes followed, among which an Editor’s Choice in Gramophone and a “10/10” on Classicstoday.com for her Goldberg Variations.

Her recordings contain many solo works by Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Janáček, Bartók, chamber music of violin and cello sonatas, piano trios, as well as piano concertos by Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Ravel and Bartók.

A fitting tribute to a great artist, who is “Deeply musical, vibrantly communicative, and utterly alive” (Jed Distler).
