Cat Hope is a composer, performer, songwriter, noise artist and researcher. She is a lutenist, experimental bassist, and artistic director of the Decibel New Music Ensemble, for which she was awarded the Australian APRA|AMC Award for Excellence in Experimental Music. Decibel was formed in Western Australia in 2009, an ensemble focused on the integration of acoustic and electronic instruments in chamber music. They are world leaders in graphic notation and pioneers in digital score formats for composition and performance. With the continued development of Decibel ScorePlayer, an iPad application for coordinated reading of graphic notation, they have created software that is now used by music ensembles and music institutions around the world. Although Decibel is rooted in the Western art music tradition, they strive to cross stylistic boundaries in their commissioning and performance approaches.
