opis
In the monastic library of the Spanish Escorial, a manuscript is kept which is one of the most important sources for secular music in Italy of the late 15th century. At that time, the courts were dominated by musicians who came mainly from the countries north of the Alps and from there brought their styles, for example Franco-Flemish polyphony. Italian composers were hardly to be found in the courtly sphere, but there was an extremely lively folk music tradition, which is represented in the manuscript with spirited pieces. Ensemble Florilegio presents a multi-coloured kaleidoscope of music in Italy when the Italian musical revolution of the 16th century was still a dream of the future.
