MDG has repeatedly devoted itself to the work of the gifted violinist Gerhard Taschner, who fascinated the Viennese public at the age of 13 and later became the youngest concertmaster of Wilhelm Furtwängler's Berlin Philharmonic. Unfortunately, only some of Taschner's recordings have survived, including the violin concertos by Bruch, Pfitzner and Fortner, which can be heard in exquisite quality on this new CD.
