In 1936, four young composers had had enough of neoclassicism, which had long since solidified into a formula, and founded the group "Jeune France" as a counter-movement. Although Yves Baudrier, Olivier Messiaen, André Jolivet and Jean-Yves Daniel-Lesur belonged to different religions, were adherents of different ideologies and philosophical directions, they united friendship, talent and especially the desire for new, "lively" music, which should again emphasize the expressive character of the music. To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of two of their members, Messiaen and Daniel-Lesur, Catherine Simonpietri and her vocal ensemble Sequenza 9.3 have selected three choral works by Messiaen, Jolivet and Daniel-Lesur on the theme of "Love".
