At the latest since its enthusiastically celebrated Beethoven cycle at London's Wigmore Hall, the Elias Quartet has been one of the most outstanding string quartet formations. For the first recording on ALPHA, numbers 2 and 3 from Schumann's Opus 41 were selected, two works that are among the most beautiful in the romantic quartet literature. These are compositions with which the musicians also have a special relationship, for example the stirring third quartet is one of the first pieces they rehearsed together. This familiarity can be felt at all times in the equally spontaneous and subtly nuanced execution.
