Louis Couperin (ca. 1621-1661), the uncle of Francois Couperin, was one of the most brilliant harpsichordists of the 17th century. Influenced by Frescobaldi and Froberger, his style is nevertheless typically French and unmistakable: a strange, daring and experimental music, whose sometimes vague harmonies still make listeners sit up and take notice today. Skip Sempé's atmospheric and insightful playing makes him the ideal interpreter of this music.
