Here, the somewhat overused term congeniality can really be used, because anything else would be a gross understatement • Claus Guth, one of the most interesting and successful German music theatre directors, directed Handel's most famous work, the Messiah, for the opera stage in Vienna. The musical realisation is by Jean-Christophe Spinosi and the Ensemble Matheus (winner of the Diapason d'Or, BBC Music Magazine Award), who are internationally acclaimed by critics for their interpretations of early music on original instruments. Hannes Rossacher, who is famous as a director of pop video clips (for the Rolling Stones etc.) and productions of classical music, has captured this oratorio in moving and moving images.
