Volkmann: Complete String Quartets; Piano Trios; Piano Duets
Making new discoveries is always a pleasure: cpo fans have known this for a long time.
But even we ourselves have been surprised by the positive response and enthusiasm that have accompanied our Robert Volkmann discoveries.
His string quartets are characterized by technical mastery, creative ingenuity, and harmonic sophistication, and the Mannheim String Quartet adds the finishing touch with a truly breathtaking interpretation.
The *Frankfurter Rundschau*’s enthusiasm for these quartets undoubtedly extends to our complete release as well: “If these were Brahms’s quartets, they would rank among the most highly regarded works of the 19th century.
The Mannheim String Quartet plays with precision, depth, and passion.” Although they are relatively early works from 1842–43 and 1850, respectively, his two piano trios are also among his finest compositions.
