SZYMANOWSKI: Symphony 3 & 4

Bartmiński, Rafał, Broja, Jan Krzysztof, Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, Wit, Antoni

DVD ICAD 5017

This recording, filmed live from the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, benefits from DTS 5.1 surround sound. Superbly filmed for Polish Television, these two performances embody the distinguished and idiomatic conducting style for which Antoni Wit is widely recognised. He is a great communicator with an exceptional attention to detail, which can be seen in his performances of these two great works with his own orchestra and choir. Wit was nominated for Best Orchestral Performance for his audio recording of Szymanowski Symphonies 1 & 4 (Jan Krzysztof Broja, Ewa Marczyk & Marek Marczyk; Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra) on Naxos. Wit is particularly renowned for his comprehensive recordings of Polish music, Mahler and Strauss on EMI, Sony and Naxos, and works with leading orchestras worldwide including the Dresden Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, La Scala Milan, NHK Tokyo, and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. One of Szymanowskis most popular works, the Fourth Symphony is full of captivatingly beautiful melodies with a subtle orchestral score full of colour and nuance. It enjoys recognition both within and beyond the composers homeland. (Piotr Maculewicz)
