description
" For all the drama of its tale of betrayal, filicide and forbidden love, the music eschews histrionics for something altogether more domestic in focus and feeling. The overall atmosphere is one of lowering, pent-up emotion, deftly captured here by the conductor Anthony Bramall. The music is characterized by leavening woodwinds, scaled-back brass, portentous, rolling percussion, high, other-worldly strings and peppery piano." • Opera, October 2015
