description
Jacob van Eyck was blind from birth. In 1625 he left his parental home and became a bell ringers of the Utrecht cathedral tower. In 1649 his salary was increased on condition that he would delight the walkers in the churchyard with the sound of his flute. As a recorder player he is known for his work "Der Fluyten Lust-hof", which was published in different versions and parts in 1644, 1646, 1649 and 1654. It is an extensive collection of solo pieces for the soprano recorder: a melodic piece, such as a folk song or a hymn, initially performed in a simple version, is broken down into smaller, faster note values in several steps. The final point is the virtuoso version of the same piece.
