description
See colors - hear sounds: Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Lithuania's greatest composer and painter, evokes his longing for the cosmos in music and painting in delicately graded shades. Čiurlionis was a visionary artist figure between late romanticism and modernism, a creative innovator of the 20th century. Although the piano music of Čiurlionis, which accounts for the major part of his musical output, is rooted in the conservative style of late romanticism, it already opens the door to serialism and atonality. The pianist Mūza Rubackytė, also from Lithuania, is known for her "flawless playing" (American Record Guide) and intuitively strikes the "tone" of her compatriot
