description
Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) and his Pastorale Daphnis et Chloé were introduced as opera composers. The work, first performed in 1747, is based only superficially on the ancient model of the Longos of Lesbos (end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd century) and instead evokes an idealized bucolic shepherd's world, according to the taste of the noble public in Paris. Niquet and his musical comrades-in-arms serve us here once more unknown French baroque music worth discovering: fragrant, light and uncomplicated like a painting of the Boismortier contemporary Francois Boucher!
