description
Among the noble ladies of Venice only a few may have enjoyed such a profound training in singing and composition as Antonia Bembo (a. 1640-ca. 1720), who took private lessons with Francesco Cavlli. Enchanted by her musical talent, she later received a life-long pension and accommodation in a convent for noble ladies from Louis XIV. Her Produzione armoniche represent the first of a total of six manuscript collections, which she dedicated all to Louis XIV in gratitude for his protection.
