What a life: at the age of six Muzio Clementi received his first music lessons, by the age of nine he was already an organist, at twelve he composed his first oratorio, before at 14 he was invited by his English patron Sir Peter Beckford in his home country for a thorough school and music education Afterwards he worked as a virtuoso and composer in London before going on an extensive concert tour, also competing against Mozart in Vienna All these experiences were concentrated in his three-volume teaching work Gradus as Parnassum, still valid today, in which he demonstrates the highest technical mastery on the piano by means of 100 etudes. In this first of four episodes of the NAXOS series, the award-winning young Italian pianist Alessandro Marangoni, with light-footed enthusiasm, punishes the technical demands of Clementi's etudes with lies.
