Jan Dismas Zelenka's Passion Oratorio The Penitent at the Tomb of the Redeemer, composed in 1736 for the Dresden Court Church, is a prime example of the connections between Prague and Dresden: Zelenka, who was trained by the Prague Jesuits, worked as a church composer at the Saxon-Polish royal court and delighted the court society with highly dramatic oratorios in Italian during Lent, when there were no opera performances.
