George Onslow, the "Beethoven of France", contributed to the popularization of chamber music in his home country, where little attention had been paid to it until then. The contemporary of Berlioz and Paganini used his influence to promote a style of music which, however, did not experience its first performances in Paris until 1814, after the founding of a concert society by his friend Baillot. The Frenchman with the English name - his father came from the English aristocracy, his mother from the French aristocracy - created hundreds of works, among which his string quartets stand out for their innovative power. Onslow added a specifically French style to chamber music, while in Vienna Mozart and Beethoven shaped the genre.
