Mondonville: Harpsichord pieces with voice or violin
Mondonville, who directed the first public and influential concert series "Concert spirituel" in Paris from 1755 to 1762, was absolutely in tune with the times with his "Grands motets" (double-choir motets). What is less well known, however, is that he was also a great innovator as a chamber musician. His sonatas for harpsichord and accompanying violin (in contrast to the violin sonata with harpsichord accompaniment) paved the way for a genre that Mozart and Beethoven would later take to unimagined heights. By transferring the accompaniment of the harpsichord to the human voice, the experimental composer pushed another frontier.
"Camerata Obscura" - Arles in the south of France has not only been home to the long-established classical music label harmonia mundi since 1986, but also to the École nationale supérieure de la photographie, the only French art school for photography, since 1982.
Four young artists were invited to take a fresh look at key works from the Baroque repertoire and thus take on the task of designing a new series of initially four reprints.
