Leopold Mozart: Missa Solemnis
With this recording, the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, committed to Leopold's legacy by virtue of its origins in the father city of Augsburg, puts an end to the eternal inequality and rescues the father from collective oblivion on the 300th anniversary of his birth.
The Missa solemnis is the medium in which the Mozart triad of father, son and faith in the Holy Spirit set to music can be traced across two generations. Tracing back. Thus the wonderfully "concealed" timpani and muted trumpets in Wolfgang's Crucifixus of his orphanage mass can be heard for the first time in this mass by the father.
Leopold's early classical objectivity initially irritated the musicians, but they became more and more enthusiastic as they worked on the work. In Alessandro De Marchi, they have not only found an ally in the passionate cultivation of unknown works, but also a conductor who knows how to bring out the subtle Napoletanità of this southern cantata mass. Together with the choir Das Vokalprojekt and the vocal soloists, they rethink the world from the beginning; they perform with a tense curiosity, as if there were not yet a Mozart son on the horizon. And yet they leave no doubt that in these sounds lies the seed of something great that would have been unthinkable without Leopold.
