CPO’s recorded survey of Felix Weingartner's symphonic works, including seven symphonies, is now complete on 7 SACD’s. Felix Weingartner (1863-1942) was not only an internationally acclaimed conductor and a highly influential figure in Basel's music world; he also bequeathed to posterity an extensive compositional oeuvre. Slovenian conductor Marko Letonja began his studies as a pianist and conductor at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana and graduated in 1989 as a student of Otmar Suitner at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Vienna. His tenure as Principal Conductor and Music Director of the Basel Symphony Orchestra and Basel Opera began in 2003 and concluded in 2006. “…a must for all those interested in top-class symphonic music.” - Partituren
