Lo zuane tedesco, "The German Giovanni" as Rosenmüller was called in Venice, is finally experiencing his deserved renaissance. It is rather late, because already in 1845 Carl von Winterfeld wrote a comprehensive monograph in which he paid tribute to the musical merits of the composer. The present CD contains mostly works from Rosenmüller's Venetian period of almost 25 years, where he worked at the Ospedale della Pietà, among other places. The sacred and instrumental works recorded here by I Fedeli impressively demonstrate how Rosenmüller not only knew how to adopt the Italian style, but also how to use it in a very skilful way but knew how to combine it with the "German gravitas" in a very skilful way.
