Joachim Raff, born 1822 in Switzerland, was an important composer of the 19th century. Franz Liszt - whose assistant he was from 1850 to 1856 - benefited greatly from Raff's talent for instrumentation. This had an influence on Tchaikovsky, Mahler and Debussy. Two first recordings: Sanges-Frühling op. 98, a collection of 30 compositions for voice and piano, written between 1855 and 1863, is a real discovery, followed by the cycle Maria Stuart op. 172 (12 songs), written in 1872. The Swiss soprano Noëmi Nadelmann is a multi-layered and fascinating singer of the classical music scene, of breathtaking charisma, musical expressivity and dramaturgical versatility. Barbara Kozelj, Slovenian mezzo-soprano, is gifted with an enchanting voice and true craftsmanship; she is a devoted singer, famous for the warmth of her voice and her elegant appearance. The Dutch baritone Thomas Oliemans made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2005 and has sung under conductors such as Kent Nagano, Edo de Waart and Ricardo Chailly.
