With his "Pictures at an Exhibition", originally composed for piano, Modest Mussorgsky set a musical monument to the artistry of his friend Victor Hartmann, who died at the age of only 39. With his new orchestration, Peter Breiner transports Mussorgsky's original with an unusual selection of instruments into the present, without losing sight of the specific atmosphere of the "image". Just spectacular is the line-up in Breiner's orchestration of the Great Gate of Kiev with 104 musicians.
