The upswing in domestic music in the 19th century created an enormous demand for pianos, with the Parisian companies Érard and Pleyel becoming market leaders. Their instruments were particularly appreciated for their soft sound and the extremely sensitive action that reacts to the player's touch. Within the framework of the Chopin complete recording, which has now begun on Hungaroton, Szilasi plays on an instrument of the time, a 2.80 m long original Pleyel concert grand piano, which leads to a fascinating sound experience. Parallel to the complete recording, which will be completed by 2010, the French Edition Fuzeau, under the pianist's editorship, is publishing the facsimile edition of the first edition of the Chopin works.
