On Rosenhill is a tribute to the neighbourhood where the composer and jazz trumpeter Jakob Buchanan (b. 1968) grew up and which he has revisited many years later. A Danish housing project characterized by high-rise concrete apartments when it was built in the 1960s, today's Rosenhøj (Rosenhill) is a fascinating cultural melting pot that offers previously undreamt of possibilities to its residents.

This album is Buchanan's first for Dacapo, introducing a wonderful new group of close musical associates in music of flowing lyricism, delicate texture and inspired interplay in settings of poems by the best-selling writer, Iain S. Thomas, interpreted by New York born singer Indra Rios-Moore.

The music has an open, Scandinavian sound; something utterly Nordic mixed with a blue melancholy, and is performed by some of the best jazz musicians in Scandinavia; Chris Speed, Simon Toldam, Mads Bærentzen, Frederik Sakham and Helge Norbakken, accompanied by Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and conductor Carsten Seyer-Hansen.

The album presents the world premiere recording of On Rosenhill, and is mixed in the legendary Rainbow Studio in Oslo, by master sound engineer Jan Erik Kongshaug – his very last album, before passing away.
