During his lifetime Francesco Canova da Milano was known as ‘Il Divino’ and was, by all accounts, ‘a miraculous lute player’. He was the most prolific lute composer of his day, even more so than his close contemporary, the Spanish vihuelist and composer, Luis de Milán. Christopher Wilson plays this collection of pieces, including duets with Shirley Rumsey, with a natural and unforced authority.
