CONCERTO CLASSICS presents an exclusive recording project CHRISTMAS MASS IN ST. MARK 1685 with music by GIOVANNI LEGRENZI masterfully performed by the CAPPELLA MARCIANA, the oldest and most important liturgical choir in Italy, conducted by MAESTRO MARCO GEMMANI.

The Christmas Mass in St. Mark’s Cathedral has always been one of the most important musical events for the city of Venice. The State ceremonial of the Serenissima, ever since the XVIth century, required that the morning mass was celebrated in great solemnity. The whole of the Venetian aristocracy took part to this mass and therefore the Chapel of the Serenissima was highly encouraged to express its possibilities to the fullest. Such tradition persists to this day. The Christmas Concert in St. Mark’s Cathedral was organised from the 1950s by the Gran Teatro La Fenice. In 2014 the event was assigned back again to the Marcian Chapel which and on December 17th 2019 performed this Christmas Mass with music by Giovanni Legrenzi in the cathedral for a crowded audience.
