The musical language of Paschal de L'Estocart, about whose life very little is known, seems to have been influenced by Lassus, as with all French composers of his generation. The ability to use all compositional techniques in the service of musical expression and the clarity with which the musical syntax corresponds to that of the text are characteristic. Among other characteristics of his compositions, such as rhythmic variety and a feeling for movement, his greatest originality, however, lies in his harmonic boldness. The vocal ensemble Ludus Tonalis, founded on the initiative of Bruno Boterf, brings the full colourfulness of L'Estocart's music to the ear in an ideal way
