Only a few colleagues held Johannes Brahms in such high esteem as Robert Kahn. The very fact that Brahms discussed his compositions with the thirty-year-old younger composer and studied the works of the old masters is proof of the great mutual interest - after all, the much sought-after composer was extremely thrifty when it came to giving lessons. It may be considered a special distinction that only Kahn was still present when Brahms presented his late Clarinet Trio op. 114 to Clara Schumann. The Max Brod Trio has taken up the forgotten talent and recorded the two piano trios op. 19 and op. 33 in the best sound technology.
