During the First World War Joseph Jongen (1873-1953) was forced to flee with his family to London, where he not only founded the Quatuor belge de Londres, but also composed numerous works. The Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège under Jean-Pierre Haeck presents here on the special label MUSIQUE EN WALLONIE some orchestral works worth listening to by the Belgian from the time of his London exile. Jongen's works are characterized by an immediately appealing late-romantic tonal language which, although betraying his models Franck, Wagner, Debussy and Ravel, does not copy them epigonally.
