opis
Engels Liedt is the debut CD of the German recorder player Gerald Stempfel, and a spectacular new interpretation of music for recorder solo from the "Fluyten Lusthof" by the blind flute player Jacob van Eyck (1590 - 1657) Van Eyck, who worked as a carillonneur and flutist in the Dutch city of Utrecht, is still regarded as one of the most important composers of recorder solo music, and his comprehensive work, the "Fluyten Lust-hof" of 1649, was the largest collection of music for a solo instrument to date. Gerald Stempfel approaches the music of the old master in a deeply personal and individual way. He internalizes van Eyck's music in his playing to such an extent that the line between composer and performer, between the written notes and the original idea becomes blurred and often loses all meaning The CD was recorded in a single night, in the silence of the darkness of an old monastery church, interrupted only by the sound of the church bell at midnight. This can also be heard on the CD and forms a caesura in the flow of the flute sounds as well as a reminiscence of Van Eyck, who mastered the flute and the glockenspiel like no other of his time. This interpretation, which is radically oriented towards the essence of music, allows the listener to dive deeply into van Eyck's world and reveals, in addition to highly virtuoso joy of playing and love of life, the inner darkness and loneliness of his music. "Engels Liedt" is a journey into the soul of both composer and performer, a timeless work of art far beyond any known limit of musical convention.
