title
THE ART OF THE JAPANESE BAMBOO FLUTE
performers
Yamato Ensemble
catalogue number
EUCD2497
description
This first recording by the Yamato Ensemble features four classical pieces from the Japanese classical repertoire, two of which are from the jiuta repertoire, i.e. for Japanese trio (this typical trio includes a koto, a shamisen and a shakuhachi with vocals).
The two jiuta pieces are rarely recorded pieces (at least they are rarely found on records available outside Japan). Stagg plays a solo piece, "Shika No Tone", one of the best known and most frequently played pieces in the shakuhachi solo repertoire.
