Rossini: Il vero Omaggio
Rossini’s Il vero omaggio, or ‘The True Homage’, is a cantata written for a gala concert at the Congress of Verona in 1822.
The composer used his pre-existing work La riconoscenza almost in full but added extra music, composed a new finale, and adapted several pieces for different voice categories.
The story is of a pastoral couple on their wedding day – a self-confident shepherd and a timid shepherdess – and reveals Rossini’s effortless skill in crafting a ‘new’ work of personal and expressive warmth.
