description
It is certainly Stéphan Oliva's most intimate record that it is. And it is not one of his least paradoxes to have been recorded as a quintet. In the past, this pianist has regularly declined his influences, from Lennie Tristano to Bill Evans. Here, his universe imposes itself with a rare obviousness: fragile, subtle and full of nuances probably inherited from his passion for classical music.
With a sense of restraint and ellipsis that he shares with the most talented musicians of the ECM label, Oliva follows his inner music made of refined chords, highlighted by silences that make sense - modestly.
The beauty of this imaginary Itinerary can leave you indifferent. •Philippe Robert
