description
Among the many instrumental pieces that remained incomplete at Mozart’s death there were four particularly beautiful fragments for violin and piano. Timothy Jones has made multiple new completions of these fragments based on Mozart’s volving style during the 1780s, exploring the open-endedness of the fragments and the different directions the music might have taken. In this recording two completions of each Sonata fragment will enable listeners to take alternative journeys through Mozart’s material towards different speculative destinations.
- Timothy Jones [from liner notes]
“My completions inevitably disfigure Mozart’s music; but I have never had a problem hearing performers’ own improvised or composed cadenzas in Mozart’s concertos, and my task here was just one step further. I hope these sonata movements might be found diverting as a piece of criticism, if nothing else.”
- Timothy Jones [from liner notes]
