Unfortunately, Klezmer is often viewed as a quasi-historical musical genre in which the same melodies are repeatedly reinterpreted. Gustavo Bulgach of the Grammy-nominated group "Klezmer Juice" points out that klezmer also includes the composition of new melodies as a somewhat inherent mission:
"A musical movement like klezmer exists not only to transmit the old melodies of the past, but also calls us to develop new and original material. I wrote "Librescu Tango" in memory of the late Liviu Librescu, a professor at Virginia Technical School and victim of the Virginia Tech school shooting on April 16, 2007. Professor Librescu blocked the classroom door to allow the gunman to escape through the window, while he gave his own life to save them. Professor Librescu was a survivor of the Holocaust, a Romanian Jew. The great courage he showed in the last moments of his life inspired me to express the anger I felt at his death at the time into a beautiful melody, a dance song." to channel.
