description
Music has more to do with Belgium than one might think at first: The String Quartet in g, for example, is dedicated to the Belgian Ysaÿe Quartet, which played it in Brussels in 1894, and the Royal Conservatory in Brussels commissioned a work for its harp class from Debussy, the Danses sacrées et profanes, as a repertoire piece for the new chromatic harp. Francette Bartholomée is today one of the few harpists who still master the special way of playing this type of harp, which has fallen into disuse, and so this is one of the few recordings in which the original version with its more fascinating sound can be heard. The outstanding Quatuor Danel rounds off this successful Belgian contribution to the Debussy year.
