opis
Anton Eberl was born in Vienna in 1765, made early contact with Mozart, and remained his lifelong friend. During the winter season 1795 / 96 Eberl even accompanied Mozart's widow Constanze and her sister Aloysia Lange on a tour across Germany during which he appeared as an interpreter of Mozart's piano concertos and piano chamber music – so to speak, with the family's official stamp of approval. Beginning in the early 1790s his compositions enjoyed rapid sales, and some of his works, including the two variation works recorded on the present CD, were falsely published under Mozart's name. In a travel report penned in 1802 the author Julius Wilhelm Fischer even ranked Eberl next to Beethoven as a composer of piano music: »In piano compositions Beethoven and Anton Eberl are certainly now the strongest. Both have newness, fire, and power; both overflow with ideas, and the works by both are rather difficult to execute but then also certainly reward the effort.« Eberl's Grande Sonate op. 27 and the already mentioned variations are interpreted by Marie-Luise Hinrichs, whose stylistic excellence and extraordinary intuition have repeatedly earned her accolades from newspapers such Le Figaro and the FAZ and journals such as FonoForum.
