"The present release offers a much larger variety of works by Antonio Cabezon than does the older recording. Among the 20 pieces here, one finds divisions and variations (glosas and diferencias) of French chansons and Italian madrigals, Latin hymn tunes and sequences, and dance music, and some freely-composed works known in Spain as tientos. Thomas Wimmer also includes on his program a composition by Antonio's son Hernando--a division of Lasso's chanson 'Susanne ung Jour'--and by his brother Juan--a series of variations on the Castilian song 'Pues a Mi Desconsolado'.
