Among the many ways to define zarzuela, the most accurate is that of a national lyric genre. Under the baton of Alejandro Muñoz, the Córdoba Opera Chorus and the Córdoba Orchestra present in the recording Zarzuela Viva a selection of the most emblematic pieces from the period of zarzuela’s greatest splendour, spanning from the last quarter of the 19th century to the first third of the 20th.
The Córdoba Orchestra and the Córdoba Opera Chorus bring this recording to a close as the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream. We are united by our commitment to continue giving voice to our national lyric genre, taking one more step in the long-standing collaboration between our institutions—an endeavour that, nonetheless, is part of the deep-rooted loyalty and affection that the city of Córdoba has unfailingly shown in its support for zarzuela.
