Hilda Bronstein's passionate devotion to Yiddish songs stems from her close connection to the language she learned as a child. She considers these songs a cultural treasure of Jewish history and identity. Her early training as a singer at the Royal College of Music in London and her later work as an academic in English language and literature combine to shape her expressive interpretation of the music and lyrics of these powerful songs.

Since 2004, when she cautiously returned to the music of her childhood, she has become one of Europe's leading interpreters of Yiddish songs. Following the success of her previous album, Yiddish Songs Old and New, she participated in the 2008 International Jewish Music Festival at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and was awarded the Mira Rafalowicz Prize for "Best Interpretation of Yiddish Songs."

For this album, Hilda has teamed up with a group of talented instrumentalists who share her love of Yiddish song, as well as the exciting sounds of klezmer and swing. Through this collaboration, Hilda has been able to expand her repertoire to include beautiful traditional Yiddish melodies and new songs from Eastern Europe. She has also added a number of boisterous, boisterous pieces from the New York Yiddish Theater era and proves the resilience of Yiddish song by bringing this album firmly into the 21st century with the cool beat of "Yener Langer Zumertog."

As on her previous album, Hilda uses her native Polish dialect on some tracks and the standard "Litwish," or Lithuanian, dialect on others. Although she naturally leans toward the Polish Yiddish of her childhood, she prefers Litwish in songs where the meaning and rhyme of the lyrics seem to demand it.
