Bach/Janacek/Schumann / Bartok: En plein air
David Kadouch is one of the outstanding young pianists to be brightening the gloom with his sensitive, beautifully moulded playing. Everything is in proportion and makes you fall in love with the music again, if your enthusiasm had waned. Here he takes four very different works linked by the theme of being out of doors, the Bach being linked to a journey, the Schumann to woodland scenes, the Bartok and Janacek being more nebulous but gripping. His superb technique is always used to serve the music and it is a very vivid journey through the woods and open country in three countries, but it could be any number really - the only thing is there is no look at the sky, but the cover is an original concept, and Kadouch deserves to be seen, his playing is really not about himself at all. This makes him one of the pianists to look out for; unsurprisingly he excels at chamber music, and his Barbican appearance in Poulenc's two-piano concerto was memorable. He really seems to have what you look for ideally in a musician.
