The Matthew Passion is the third part of the successful "The Soli Deo Gloria Collection", conducted by the American John Nelson, known for his interpretations of romantic pieces. • The monumental masterpiece, composed by J. S. Bach, tells the dramatic story of the capture and crucifixion of Jesus Christ and in its composition forms a profound, lyrical and contemplative work. • In addition to the excellent Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the recordings include two internationally renowned choirs: the Schola Cantorum of Oxford (one of the oldest choirs in the UK) and the Maîtrise de Paris, whose roots date back to the 12th century. • Directed by Louise Narboni, the concert was recorded twice with seven HDTV cameras in the Basilica Cathedral Saint-Denis - a unique and monumental example of Gothic architecture. • • Bonus: The documentary "John Nelson's Saint Matthew Passion - The Journey" by Louise Narboni with visual material about the intensive rehearsals and interviews with John Nelson.
