Vivaldi's connection with Dresden and the royal house of Saxony continued in 1740 with the visit to Venice of Frederick Christian, son of the Elector, an event celebrated by the Pietá with a set of new works by Vivaldi. The present violin concertos survive in manuscript in the Dresden Saxony Landesbibliothek and represent part of the repertoire of the distinguished orchestra employed at the court.
