Vigüela presents various regional styles of traditional Spanish music, all of which originate from their homeland of Castile-La Mancha, the southern part of the Iberian plateau.
Their ninth album, "A la manera artesana," focuses on how "artisan creativity" differs from the globalization of "craft culture," which is more concerned with following templates and repetition than with unique, original craftsmanship.
According to the band's founder, Juan Antonio, style is more important than repertoire—"Repertoire can be learned, but it's the local style that makes it authentic." This approach makes Vigüela unique and has earned them a Spanish audience in both rural and urban areas. For modern Spain and the rest of the world, this is a new and exciting style, previously unknown.
But for the more rural audiences of Castile-La Mancha, it conveys a moving, nostalgic atmosphere that resonates with the local culture.
