In Renaissance and Baroque however, it was one of the foremost and popular melody instruments of all. On this release, Pieter-Jan Belder proves the artistic value of the instrument, and the wonderful repertoire written for it.

He starts with solo works from the collection “Des Fluyten Lusthof” by Dutch composer Jacob van Eijck, and continues his journey through Italian composers De Rore, Frescobaldi, Castello and Cimo to the great Baroque masters Corelli, Telemann, Handel and Bach. His fellow-travellers are harpsichordist Menno van Delft and Rainer Zipperling on the cello and viola da gamba.
